6-8 Mathematical Reasoning with
Rational Numbers

Overview

The 6-8 Mathematical Reasoning with Rational Numbers Module describes a professional development experience for mathematics teachers as they prepare their students for success in 8th grade algebra. The module was developed using the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM), the Curriculum Focal Points for Pre-kindergarten through Grade 8 Mathematics (NCTM), and the new Minnesota Academic Standards for Mathematics.

In This Session Teachers:

• Gain a deeper understanding of the mathematics they teach.
• Develop an ability to identify key learning points for various ideas.
• Establish a repertoire of developed questioning techniques to help guide student learning.
• Enhance the way they listen to and assess student thinking.
