Nature of Science and Engineering, Grades 3-6

Overview

This 5 day module is designed to train teachers in understanding important science and engineering ideas related to the Minnesota Science Standards. Instruction will also focus on student thinking; teachers will learn the various stages of development that their students progress through as they explore topics ranging from energy to plants while participating in activities with science and engineering contexts. 

Upon completion of the 5 days (6 hours each day) of training, teachers will:

  • have a deeper understanding of the MN Science Standards
  • be able to identify key learning points for various science and engineering ideas
  • have established a repertoire of questioning techniques to help guide student learning
  • have learned enhanced methods of listening and assessing student thinking
