Nature of Science and Engineering Day 5: Modeling & Celebration of Learning

Overview:
Teachers will get familiar with Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs). MEAs are open ended problems that allow students to create, test, and improve mathematical, scientific, or engineering models. Teachers will learn how to implement them in their classrooms. The day will end with a celebration of learning including poster presentations of the year’s work.
Activity: Paper Airplane MEA
In paper airplane MEA, teachers will create a judging scheme for a paper airplane contest through a given data set. The judging criteria will determine the most accurate paper airplane and the best floater. Teachers will write “letters” that represents their judging criteria.
