Nature of Science and Engineering Day 2: Design

Overview
Teachers will experience integrated engineering and science lessons.
Activity 1: Inquiry into Shadows
In the inquiry into shadows activity, teachers will explore how shadows are formed and will study both simple and complex shadows through conducting several experiments.
Activity 2: Lighten Up: Designing Lighting Systems from Engineering is Elementary (EiE)
In this engineering activity, teachers will:
- Explore how light travels in a straight line until it comes in contact with another medium
- Experiment with reflecting light using mirrors to determine the law of reflection
- Explore the relationship between the distance of an object from a light source & the intensity of light on that object.
Teachers will also design a lighting system to light as many of the hieroglyphs inside the Egyptian tomb as possible using only mirrors and one light source.
